Penn State alumni dinner, College of Earth and Mineral Sciences
September 25, 2014 11:49 pm Leave your thoughtsThere is a good reason that the first and third of my thriller trilogy involve meteorology: that was what I studied at my alma mater, Pennsylvania State University. Last Friday, the 19th of September, Becky and I had the good fortune to attend an alumni dinner (College of Earth and Mineral Sciences) there. We had the privilege of meeting the new president of the university, Eric Barron, who recently arrived from Florida State University where he had also been president. Noteworthy is the fact that Dr. Barron had earlier spent 20 years at Penn State, serving as Dean of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences from 2002 to 2006.
Also, we were able to visit with several other Penn State meteorologists and professors, including John Cahir, John Dutton, Charlie Hosler, Joel Myers, Terry Tarbell, and Dennis Thompson. The picture below is of me and Charles Hosler. Dr. Hosler is an icon within the meteorological community and particularly at Penn State.
Also attached below is a short video (taken by Becky at the dinner) involving a select subset of the Penn State Glee Club and their rendition of Johnny Smoker, a Pennsylvania folk song (I think):
