Greenland’s Helheim Glacier subject of latest thriller
June 6, 2013 3:42 pm Leave your thoughtsThe Helheim Glacier in southeastern Greenland is at the center of attention in my latest thriller, White Thaw: The Helheim Conspiracy. Having retired as a research meteorologist from the Naval Research Laboratory, I chose a meteorological topic for my first thriller back in 2005, Category 5. In that novel, terrorists create havoc when they put into motion a plan to strengthen and control hurricanes–and not for the public good.
Prophecy departed from this environmental theme, postulating a human genetic anomaly as the basis for my second thriller.
Since Prophecy, I’ve felt guilty deviating from my meteorological roots. With White Thaw, I’ve made amends by tackling the environmental topic of the decade–perhaps the century–global climate change. But compared to the ongoing debates regarding global warming, there is no subtlety in what goes on in my book. Someone is intent on creating an environmental disaster to enhance their own purposes. And that’s where the Helheim Glacier comes into play.
